Cusco | Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco & Universidad Andina del Cusco
In the 15th and 16th centuries Cusco was the capital of the Inca Empire. Today, it is a strategic South American city of 500,000 people. Close to 90% of Cusco's population is culturally Catholic, though its Incan heritage has led to a mixture of Catholicism and indigenous beliefs (syncretism).
The campus ministry in Cusco focuses on the two largest universities in Cusco (Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco and Universidad Andina del Cusco). Together they enroll more than 40,000 students pursuing various types of professional degrees. The LEAD team there has found that, due to the country’s Roman Catholic roots, most students have never had an opportunity to hear the true Gospel.
The ministry in Cusco partners with a local church plant (Fuente de Gracia) as well as a medical clinic (La Fuente Centro de Salud Integral) to help foster and grow relationships with university students.
The opportunity to serve in alongside the campus ministry in such a historic and influential South American city presents a unique opportunity for LEAD Staff.
